Leah Plews

Leah Plews Trainee Solicitor Apprentice

In September 2019, I started my Solicitor Degree Apprenticeship with Watson Woodhouse. I began working within the Civil Litigation Department, working with victims who have suffered a personal injury, taking civil actions against public authorities, debt recovery and much more.

Then, I moved to the Housing Department, where I advised and assisted clients on matters including possession proceedings, homelessness, harassment and disrepair. This was a crucial experience as I was supporting multiple people throughout each day when they were struggling and needed help.

I am currently based in the Crown Court department. I have worked on numerous Crown Court files and have a particular interest in financial work.  A lot of my caseload comprises of POCA (Proceeds of Crime Act) matters.  I have always enjoyed mathematics and considered working as an accountant until I saw the opportunities the apprenticeship scheme at Watson Woodhouse offered.  Numbers and paper trials are used by the prosecution to attempt to prove guilt, I enjoy using those same numbers to show enough doubt in the prosecution evidence to win the case for my client.

Also, I am qualified as a Police Station Representative and spend a portion of my time attending the police station to represent individuals who have been arrested for any criminal offence.  I believe that attendance at the police station is one of the most critical parts of any criminal case as what is said, or not said, at the police station can be used by the prosecution when they close their case before the jury.

I enjoy helping and supporting clients. I believe it is very important to gain a good relationship with clients through trust and hard work.
